Thanks for stopping by. My name is Micki Friday and I am extremely passionate about health + wellness, for myself and for YOU!
Credentials: I received my bachelor’s in elementary education from Texas A&M in 2002 and a Master’s from LSUHSC in Occupation Therapy (OT) in 2011. What does that have to do with health coaching? I chose both professions because I’ve always felt called to help others, whether it’s helping them learn to read and do math- like I did with my students, or help patients learn to dress and feed themselves again after a stroke- like my time spent in occupational therapy.
I am National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) certified. I am a Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA) Certified Coach, Holistic Health Coach through AFPA, have a certification in Functional Nutrition through MindBodyGreen and an herbalist certification from Heart of Herbs. My certifications were all done with the intention to learn what health really means. I wanted to help myself and others incorporate healthy lifestyle choices into our busy lives. We will work together to discover what it means for you to live a fuller, healthier life.
Personal Story: A few years into occupational therapy, I realized that there was no space in conventional healthcare for promoting health and wellness. It was about helping people AFTER they experienced a life altering illness or event. I wanted to learn what could be done BEFORE illness occurs.
During my time as an OT, both of my parents were experiencing devastating chronic health issues, and I was convinced that there was a better way to grow old. Convinced that suffering and illness were not the only way to “live” life, I discovered Functional Medicine- websites, doctors, podcasts and books. I was like a sponge, absorbing all that I could about how a person’s daily choices could impact health. During this time, as a daughter and caregiver, I watched my dad go through chemo, radiation and experimental drugs to try to slow his lung, liver and brain cancers. I also witnessed my mother suffer from joint deterioration (resulting in numerous joint replacements), along with chronic inflammatory diseases. The time spent as a caregiver impacted me, solidifying my resolve to live a healthier life. I wanted to learn what could be done to nourish the mind and body in order to flourish.
